Pitcher Mick Natividad came prepared for the big plays from defending champion Adamson as he powered National University to a 4-3 win over the Falcons in Thursday’s 72nd UAAP baseball elimination at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Diamond. Natividad worked seven innings in relief and limited the Falcons to just three hits and a run with four strikeouts, spoiling two important plays of Adamson in the fourth and ninth innings along the way to lead the Bulldogs to their fourth win in seven outings.

The Bulldogs tagged Adamson’s ace hurler Romeo Jasmin with seven hits and four runs with rookie MJ Gante accounting for two crisp hits that resulted in two runs. Gante belted a double in the first and a triple two innings later that both produced runs as the Bulldogs opened a 3-0 lead. Adamson scored two runs in the fourth inning and had chances of adding more as Jennald Pareja, Gian Llaguno and Edward Landicho loaded the bases with two outs. Marvin Malig stepped up the batter’s plate but Natividad responded with a strikeout to strand all Adamson runners. Jezreel Rosita increased NU’s lead to two runs, 4-2, as he boarded base off an error, advanced to third on a fielders’ choice and scooted home on a sacrifice fly by Jarus Inobio. That turned out to be the last run of the Bulldogs but enough to pull off the win, thanks to the defense and the solid pitching of Natividad in the next frames. Natividad gave up a homerun to Maclyn Samorin in the eighth inning and found himself in a tight situation as Malig boarded base off an error by Bulldogs catcher at the start of the final inning.
But the veteran hurler stranded Malig by retiring Richard Siacor, Joselito Bermoza and Welvin Vispo, sealing NU’s win and dealing Adamson’s second loss in seven outings. The Falcons, though, remained in second spot in the standings behind University of the Philippines (5-1). La Salle joined NU a with 4-3 record after a 14-9 decision over Ateneo in the other game. The Eagles started strong by scoring five runs in the second inning and stretching the lead to 7-2 after three innings. The Archers, however, outhit the Eagles, 17-2, in the last seven innings to rally back to post the win and send the Eagles to their seventh straight loss. - GMANews.TV
