Blazers join Red Lions on top of NCAA football standings

College of Saint Benilde blanked Mapua, 2-0, on Friday to join defending champion San Beda on top of the standings in the in the 85th NCAA football competition at the PhilSports Football and Athletics Stadium in Pasig City.

The win, the fourth for the Blazers in as many games, strengthened their Final Four bid while the Cardinals absorbed their third loss against one win. While the Blazers had an easy outing last week, where they dealt guest team Angeles U Foundation a 12-0 thrashing, the Taft-based booters this time found the Cardinals a tougher foe where CSB needed all the stops to complete the win. In the other match, event host Perpetual Help snapped out of its three-game skid with a 2-0 trouncing of AUF. It was the Altas’ first win while the Great Danes remained winless after four games.

In juniors’ action, Emilio Aguinaldo College pulled off a 5-1 decision against Letran to hike its record to an even 2-2 slate. The Perpetual Junior Altas were merciless in hammering out a 19-0 win over the AUF Junior Danes for their fifth straight win. The Squires dropped their fourth straight game while the Junior Danes absorbed their sixth consecutive loss. – GMANews.TV
