Top teams eye finals berth in UAAP volleyball semis wars

The men’s and women’s teams of La Salle, University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern U eye outright finals berth as they take on separate rivals in Saturday’s Final Four round of the 72nd UAAP volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

As the top two men’s teams after the double elimination round, reigning titlist UST and season host FEU need to win just once against their respective foes to set a finals showdown. The top seeded Tigers, making their 16th semis appearance, hope to earn a third straight finals stint when they face No. 4 rank University of the Philippines in the 11 a.m. second game. The Tamaraws, who hold a league-best 24 titles, is hoping to earn a return trip to the finals after failing in their bid last season. They take on No. 3 team Ateneo in the 9 a.m. opening match. Defending women’s champion La Salle and UST, both holding twice-to-beat incentives against their opponents after finishing 1-2 in the league, are also hoping to arrange a finals date. The Lady Archers battle No. 4 Adamson Lady Falcons at 2 p.m. while the Tigresses collide with the third-ranked Ateneo Lady Eagles at 4 p.m. – GMANews.TV
