Viloria outpoints Mexican rival
Filipino-American Brian Viloria salvaged a split decision victory over a game Omar Soto of Mexico during their 10-round encounter of the Boxing At The Bay IV at the Ynares Center in Pasig City. A powerful right that dropped his Mexican rival to the canvas was all Viloria needed in outpointing Soto. Fighting in the 112-lbs. division for the first time in a long while, the man known as âThe Hawaiian Punch" dominated the match in the early goings. A vicious right sent Soto down to the canvass and Viloria was determined to finish off his counterpart from there. But the Mexican slugger survived the round, and slowly but surely, gamely fought his way back into the contest. While Soto appeared to get his second wind, Viloria began to tire and nearly lost steam, similar to what happened in his previous bout when he lost to Carlos Tamara last January. Viloria and Soto engaged in solid exchanges in the 10th and the fight had to be determnined by scorecards. Viloria won on two judgesâ scorecards -- 97-93 and 97-94. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
