The Asian Tour's Asian Development Tour (ADT) and the Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. will be teaming up to organize the inaugural Aboitiz Invitational on August 30 to September 3 at the Cebu Country Club in Cebu. This is the second event that the Asian Tour will be supporting after helping the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) hold the Philippine Open, Asia's oldest championship for professional golfers, in May this year. The $65,000 Aboitiz Invitational will be the first event to be featured by the ADT-PGT partnership. The PGT is the organizer of the ICTSI-Golf Tour. The latest addition raises ADT's schedule to eight events this year. The ADT is the region's secondary circuit for upcoming players and rising stars. The ADT, which staged five events in its maiden year in 2010, will also have stops in Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Bangladesh and Indonesia. "An ADT tournament in Cebu through the Aboitiz Invitational puts the Philippine Golf Tour (PGT) and ADT further in the regional and global golfing map," said PGT general manager Colo Ventosa. Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla Han said he was thrilled to welcome the newest tournament on the ADT Schedule. "While the ADT is only into its second year, it continues to grow with new events joining our schedule which ultimately creates new playing opportunities for the rising stars of the game. These are exciting times for the development of golf in Asia and we hope to unearth new stars through a strong platform which the ADT was created for," said Han. The ADT is proving to be an exciting breeding ground for budding golfers to harness their talent and is the ideal career pathway to the established Asian Tour. The top three players on the 2011 ADT will earn Asian Tour cards for the following season. – Adrian Flores/JVP, GMA News
