In FTW's episode "Cortez and Canaleta- The New Sparks?," Miakka Lim, Mico Halili, Jason Webb and Magoo Marjon discuss the emergence of Mike Cortez and Nino Canaleta as Ginebra's top guns in the absence of Mark Caguioa. "I was waiting for him to make his mark," said Mico of Mike “Cool Cat” Cortez. "Mike Cortez has had one solid Commissioner's Cup," added Magoo. Through 13 games, the La Salle standout has averages of 11.23 points, 5.08 rebounds and 5.23 assists. Cortez and co.'s stellar play has filled in the hole in Ginebra which used to be occupied by Mark Caguioa's big-time efforts as the Kings have now seemingly risen to the challenge of winning three games in a row to advance to the Finals. Magoo highlights how Canaleta scored 19 in Game 2 and 23 in Game 3. "Canaleta was there 3-4 hours before the game- shooting," he recalled. But the question of how long they can sustain their efforts was brought up by Miakka. Jason for his part, believes Cortez will be solid all throughout the series. The FTW crew also considered the chance that other players could be due for breakout games. "Dylan [Ababou] is due," said Jason. The rookie who was acquired by the team in the off-season after the All-Filipino Cup scored a total of 11 points in their first two games against B-MEG, but produced 13 in his team’s recent win. "Ang kailangang abangan ng Ginebra fans ay si Jayjay Helterbrand. We know Jayjay. He can take over," added Magoo. Helterbrand chipped in 12 last Sunday. - Renee Fopalan / AMD, GMA News
