One quarter of lockdown defense was all it took for the Adamson University Soaring Falcons to move over the .500 mark. The Falcons held the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals to just eight points in the fourth period while scoring 22 themselves, and the result was a 77-58 triumph that improved their record to 2-1 in the FilOil Flying V Pre-season Tournament, Friday at The Arena in San Juan City. EJ Camson and Alex Nuyles put Adamson on the scoreboard with a bucket apiece to begin the game, but EAC countered with a 9-2 run, fueled by five from guard Jan Jamon, to force Falcons head coach Leo Austria to burn an early timeout. When play resumed, Nuyles then drained a long jumper and combined with Camson anew to score Adamson's next nine points. The Falcons limited the Generals to only two more field goals to snatch the lead away, 15-13 after the first quarter. The Generals broke loose in the second quarter against Adamson's reserves line-up, with the backcourt duo of Remy Morada and Ryan Monteclaro taking turns penetrating the lane for layups, scoring 11 of EAC's 22 points in the quarter. On the other end, Falcons wingman Jeff Olalia held down the fort for his team in the second, scoring all his points in the lane. Eric Cabigas chimed in four points in the last minute for the Falcons, but Igee King buried a long deuce from the left baseline to give last NCAA season's cellar-dwellers the unlikely lead entering halftime, 35-32. Rejuvenated after the break, Adamson doubled the Generals' output, 12-6, to begin the third, as Jericho Cruz and reserve guard Jansen Rios contributing 10 markers to regain the lead, 44-41. EAC guard Morada buried a triple to bring his team back in the game, but Nuyles shook off his ineffective second quarter play to score seven of Adamson's last ten points to fend off the Generals, 54-51. At the beginning of the fourth, King brought the Generals to within a point with a basket inside. However, the Falcons finally found that extra gear, breaking the game open with a more decisive, 12-3 flurry over the next five minutes, highlighted by a pair of triples by Roider Cabrera. Jamon sank a pair of charities at the 3:25 mark to ease the bleeding but the Generals were helpless as Adamson continued to break out in transition on almost every possession until the final buzzer. Veteran guard Alex Nuyles headlined the Falcons' efforts with 17 points and six rebounds on six for ten shooting from the field. Eric Camson added a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards, while Roider Cabrera and Rodney Brondial combined for 18 points, 10 rebounds and six denials. Adamson's defense frustrated EAC for most of the game, forcing them to commit 29 turnovers. The Generals paid the price for their miscues as Adamson converted them into 25 points, yielding a 52 percent clip for the Falcons inside the arc. Foreign center Noube Happi led EAC with 15 points, but shot a miserable 6 for 20 clip from the field. He did make up for it somewhat by pulling down 21 rebounds, including seven off the offensive glass. Part of the Generals' lackluster fourth quarter can be attributed to him, as he went scoreless in 10 minutes, missing all six of his attempts. Igee King added 11 on 11 attempts, as the only other General in double figures. Emilio Aguinaldo sank to 1-3 in the standings, their only victory coming against the CSB Blazers in overtime.  - AMD, GMA News The scores: ADU 77: Nuyles 17, Cabrera 11, Camson 10, Cruz 9, Brondial 7, Rios 7, Cabigas 6, Olalia 6, Monteclaro 2, Agustin 2, Etrone 0, Julkipli 0, Trollano 0, Petelios 0 EAC 58: Happi 15, King 11, Morada 9, Monteclaro 7, Jamon 7.
