The 75th season of the UAAP kicks off with this game, between host team National University Bulldogs and the University of the East Red Warriors, Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. All eyes are on the Bulldogs, who romped through this summer's FilOil Flying V Pre-season Tournament undefeated, an act that immediately installed them as a favorite to win the title. But while the hosts would want nothing more than to finally lift a trophy again, what with their last one coming in 1954, they can't overlook a young but feisty Red Warriors team that will be eager to inflict an opening day upset on their more heralded foes. History lesson: When these two teams first met in Season 74, the result was an upset win for UE, as they beat NU 72-71. A 12-2 run by the Red Warriors was capped by an Adrian Santos lay-up off a Roi Sumang assist to arrive at the final score, but still with 13 seconds left on the clock. Bobby Ray Parks got to the line on the other end of the court, but eventual league MVP flubbed both charities. Players from both sides scrambled for the rebound, resulting in a loose ball, and after the ref heaved it into the air, Santos was able to tip it to Sumang, to clinch the UE win. Round two however was a completely different affair, as NU got revenge and obliterated UE, 91-51. Though they led by just six after the first 10 minutes, the Bulldogs' offense found their groove, posting a 20 point advantage at the break, effectively ending the match early. UE projected starting five: Roi Sumang (14.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.5 blocks, 2.5 turnovers in FilOil) - point guard, Adrian Santos - power forward, Chris Javier - center, Jay-ar Sumido - small forward, Dan Alberto - shooting guard NU projected starting five: Bobby Ray Parks (18.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.8 blocks, 2.4 turnovers in FilOil)  - small forward, Emmanuel Mbe - center, Gelo Alolino - point guard, Denice Villamor - power forward, Jeoffrey Javillonar - small forward (page updates automatically, game starts at 2pm)
