Collegiate Athletic League fires off July 27

The Collegiate Athletic League (CAL) will usher in a new season of men’s and women’s basketball competitions at the Trinity University of Asia gym on July 27.                          A total of 13 teams are in the field, led by the College of St. Benilde, Colegio De San Lorenzo, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Trinity University of Asia, Informatics, Don Bosco Technical College, and the University of Asia & the Pacific, in the men’s division.                          The CAL, sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), also features women’s division squads from Adamson University, University of Santo Tomas, College of St. Benilde, Don Bosco Technical College and De La Salle University-Dasmarinas.                          The UST versus DLS-Dasmarinas and Adamson versus Don Bosco women's division games will open the league at 1:00 p.m. while on the men's side, San Lorenzo plays UA&P, and Trinity University battles Don Bosco.                          Aside from the men and women’s basketball, CAL is planning to expand its base into the junior basketball and women’s volleyball for the next season. The Philippine Sports Commission-backed CAL, formerly known as the Collegiate Development League (CDL), was established last year as a developmental league for the UAAP’s and NCAA’s Team B varsity teams. - AMD, GMA News
