Adamson University cruised through a straight-set victory against the University of the East, 25-15, 25-22, 25-18, at the San Juan Arena on Sunday, keeping them in the running for a final four berth in the UAAP Women's Volleyball Tournament.

With the win, the Lady Falcons improved their record to 4-6 and ended a four-game losing streak. The Lady Warriors, meanwhile, remain winless after 10 outings.

Amanda Villanueva led Adamson with 13 points, all on attacks. Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza scored 11 points apiece, while Erica Alkuino had eight.

Team captain Shaya Adorador finished with 12 points for UE, while Angelica Dacaymat had nine.

Adamson posted an early 7-1 lead in the first frame behind the hot hands of Galanza. The San Marcelino-based squad then breezed through the set getting a huge help from the 11 errors of UE.

The Lady Warriors fought back in the second, erasing a 15-22 deficit with a 6-0 capped by a service ace from Jan Manansala to come within a point. The Lady Falcons had to burn a timeout to regroup, and then closed out the set with strong net play from Erika Alkuino and Mary Joy Dacoron.

UE finally found their rhythm to seize the lead momentarily in the third, heading to the second technical timeout on top 16-14 behind a service ace by Adorador. The skipper led the team's run during the set, finding campfire spots with drops and varrying her attacks.

But a Galanza resurgence helped Adamson wrestle back the lead and mount a formidable 23-17 cushion en route to the victory. — Marisse Panaligan/JDS, GMA News
