Banners, cheers greet Carlos Yulo at alma mater homecoming


World artistic gymnastics champ Carlos Yulo  on Thursday was greeted with bursts of applause and banners as teachers and pupils at his alma mater Aurora Elementary School in Manila welcomed him in a homecoming event.

Carlos bagged the gold medal at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships for winning the men's floor title in Germany, which makes him the first Filipino to win the title.

Isa Avendaño-Umali on Dobol B sa News TV, said the teachers and pupils of Aurora Elementary School cheered for Carlos as he walked down the walkway in the campus.

Pupils put up banners with messages like “Congratulations Kuya Caloy” and flowers for Carlos during the homecoming event in Malate.

Carlos, who studied in the campus since pre-school, made a speech in front of teachers and a large crowd of young students.

The teenager Filipino gymnast, who returned  home in the Philippines on Tuesday, has qualified to compete in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Soon to be Olympian Carlos will go back in Tokyo, Japan to continue his training in preparation for the South East Asian Games and 2020 Tokyo Olympics and other competitions.
