A day after the Azkals claimed a huge victory over Vietnam in the 2012 Suzuki Cup, the Philippine Women's National Football Team, also known as the Malditas, showed that they too are more than capable of coming out on top in a big game.

The Malditas escaped with a 4-3 penalty shootout win following a 1-1 tie in full-time, Tuesday (Wednesday, PHL time) against the California Cosmos, to be crowned as champions of the LA Viking Cup, at the Santa Ana Stadium in Santa Ana, California.

The Malditas emerged from a four-team field undefeated, defeating the Metro Stars 1-0, and Leon 8-1, sandwiching a 3-3 draw with the Cosmos in the round-robin phase of the tourney. They then got revenge on the Cosmos in the Final, besting them when it counted most. - AMD, GMA News
