Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines to bring back women's league
The Amateur Softball Association-Philippines is reviving the National Intercollegiate Women’s Softball series next month in an effort to discover new talents. The board’s plan is to also make the tournament an annual affair in the ASA-Phil calendar, as this will provide the link between the youth development program such as the Palarong Pambansa and National Open, and other commercial competitions. The series, chiefly backed by Cebuana Lhuillier, will feature 12 teams, including seven coming from the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), two from the State Colleges and University Association (SCUAA) and three from the provinces. UAAP defending champions Adamson University Lady Falcons is the pre-tournament favorite in the one-round, two-group elimination portion of the event, which will run from October 15 to 21 at the Rosario Sports Complex in Pasig City. Expected to challenge Adamson are the Lady Maroons of the University of the Philippines, University of the East, University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo, La Salle National University, long-time SCUAA titlist Rizal Technological University and Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Baguio City’s St. Louis University and University of Cordillera, and Central Philippine University of Iloilo are also vying for honors in the series. - AMD, GMA News
