Golf: Justin Guiban leads Junior Masters Southern Luzon tilt early
Justin Quiban bucked the morning heat with a cool wind-up, to build a four-shot advantage off Miguel Shah in the Boys' Division A, after the first round of the Junior Masters Southern Luzon leg at the Splendido Taal and Country Club in Nasugbu, Batangas. Quiban made birdies on the 15th and 16th to somewhat negate his bogeys early. He ended with a one-over-par 73, ahead from Shah's 77. Jonas Magcalayo checked in with a 78 to place third in the two-day qualifier by the Philippine Golf Foundation. Ryan Monsalve started strong on the front nine with a 34m but faltered with a 40 coming home for a two-over-par 74. Despite that, he was up front in the Boys' Division B against Korean Kim Tae-woo (77). CJ Acero and Dan Cruz were tied with 82s. Carl Corpus had a quadruple bogey 8 on the 10th and a double bogey 7 on the 18th but his 83 was enough for a lead of one in the Boys' Division C. Karl dela Torre made an 84, Ira Alido 87 and the 89s of Marc Coralles and Paqo Barro. Jolo Magcalayo paced the Boys Division' D of the event, Southern Luzon stop of the ICTSI-backed PGF Junior Masters Series. In the girls division, Korean Park Da-cheung, Annika Cedo, Ashia Nocum and Laia Barro were ahead in Classes A, B, C and D, respectively. The top two finishers in each division will clinch berths in the finale slated at the Alabang Country Club from May 21 to 24. - AMD, GMA News
