SEA Games: Two more silvers for PHL in athletics, wushu

The Philippines won its first medals in wushu and athletics in the Southeast Asian Games with a pair of silver medals over the weekend.
Mary Joy Tabal finished the women's marathon at second place with 3:04:39, a minute behind gold medalist Natthaya Thanaronnawat of Thailand. Vietnam's Thi Thanh Hoang notched the bronze.
Filipino wushu artists Daniel Parantac, Norlence Ardee Catolico, and John Keithley Chan also bagged a silver medal in the men's duel event-weapons.
Asian Games silver medalist Paranatac led the trio to a score of 9.70 behind host country Singapore with 9.72. Brunei completed the top three with 9.68 for the bronze medal.
Team Philippines also added three bronze to its medal haul courtesy of fencing and judo.
Filipina fencers Justine Gail Tinio, Wilhelmina Lozada, Keren Pangilinan, and Anna Gabriella Estimada assured themselves of a bronze after qualifying for the semifinals of the women's team foil, but they absorbed a 36-28 loss to Singapore.
Judokas Gilbert Ramirez and Helen Dawa, meanwhile, barged into the podium in the men's 66-73kg and women's -52kg, respectively.
The Philippines currently ranks seventh in the medal tally with two gold, six silver, and eight bronze for a total of 16 medals. Host Singapore remains at the top with 50 including 18 gold, ahead of Vietnam and Thailand. -- Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
