UAAP suspends chess matches this weekend due to Ompong

UAAP chess tournament matches scheduled September 15 and 16 have been suspended in light of the expected effects of Typhoon Ompong.

The chess matches have been rescheduled to September 19, according to an advisory issued by UAAP board member and University of Santo Tomas Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (UST-IPEA) Department Secretary Gilda Kamus on Thursday.

Typhoon Ompong, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday, is expected to make landfall in Cagayan-Isabela region on Saturday morning.

It was last spotted 575 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes on Thursday afternoon. Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been raised in 38 areas so far.
