Hidilyn Diaz bags bronze medal in IWF World Championships 2019


Filipina weightlifter and Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz on Friday won the bronze medal at the 2019 International Weightlifting Championships held in Pattaya, Thailand.

The 28-year-old lifted a total of 214 kg (93 kg in Snatch and 121 kg in Clean and Jerk) in the women's 55 kg category.

Diaz placed third behind two Chinese weightlifters, Qiuyun Liao who placed first (227 kg) and Wanqiong Zhang in second place (222 kg).

In a Facebook post on Friday afternoon, Diaz said representing the Philippines in the IWF competition is a privilege from God.

She also thanked the Philippine Sports Commission for supporting the national weightlifting team.

"It is a privilege given by God to represent my beloved country, Philippines in a prestigious competition at the IWF World Championship 2019. Thank you @PSC for the support given to the whole Philippine Weightlifting team," Diaz wrote.

Diaz, also a Philippine Air Force sergeant and Asian Games gold medalist in weightlifting, is eyeing to compete in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo—KG, GMA News
