PHL's Sibol targets 4 golds in eSports

The Philippines' Team Sibol hopes to win at least four gold medals as eSports made its debut at the Southeast Asian Games on Thursday at the FilOil Arena.

Six gold medals are at stake in eSports, one for each category: Mobile Legends, Dota 2, Arena of Valor, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, and Tekken 7.

Jia Dee, one of the country's two representatives in Hearthstone, said she is glad to see her game become mainstream.

"Syempre nakaka-proud po, parang ma-va-validate ka po," she said. "Kasi ito po talaga 'yung trabaho ko even before ng SEA Games, full-time player and commentator po ako ng Hearthstone."

Aside from Hearthstone, StarCraft II and Tekken 7 have two members while the rest of the games have teams of seven members each.

Dee said the team is prepared to take on the competition after training six to seven hours a day three times a week.

"Sobrang excited po pero nakaka-pressure din. Syempre medyo kinakabahan din pero ma-o-overcome naman po," she said. —MGP, GMA News
