Kristina Knott breaks Lydia de Vega's national record

Kristina Knott shattered Lydia de Vega's national record in the women's 200m  at the Southeast Asian Games on Saturday at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium.

The runner sprinted 23.07 seconds in the heats to break De Vega's record of 23.35 seconds, which stood for 33 years.

Knott also set a new SEA Games record with the performance, surpassing the 23.30 seconds set by Supavadee Khawpeag of Thailand in 2001.

Indonesia's Alvin Tehupeiory finished more than second behind her in the heats, clocking in at 24.09 seconds. Vietnam's Thi Thu Ha came in third with a time of 24.45 seconds.

The Filipina is looking to secure a medal for the Philippines later in the final race.
