Khabib Nurmagomedov's father passes away after battle with COVID-19

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap has passed away at 57 years old from complications brought upon by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The revered father and trainer of the reigning UFC lightweight world champion was airlifted to Russia’s capital of Moscow last May to get medical treatment after he was deemed in critical condition.

What started with pneumonia-like symptoms as he tested positive for the coronavirus, Abdulmanap then suffered a heart attack that required emergency bypass surgery. He was placed in a medically induced coma afterward.

Abdulmanap, a decorated combat sambo veteran, has been the driving force behind his son’s success in professional mixed martial arts.

He was responsible for converting a part of their house as a gym where Khabib learned how to wrestle as a kid. A creator of champions in his field, Abdulmanap was touted as the “Father of Dagestan MMA.” -- BAP, GMA News
