Eduard Folayang welcomes showdown with ONE lightweight champ Christian Lee

Team Lakay’s Eduard Folayang welcomes the idea of challenging the current ONE lightweight world champion Christian Lee.

In a recent interview, the 22-year-old from Singapore sang praises for the former ONE lightweight world titleholder from Baguio City and expressed his willingness to defend the gold-plated strap against the Filipino.

“I would love to share the ONE circle with Eduard Folayang. I have a lot of respect for all that he’s accomplished in his career, and I think that we could put on a great show for the fans,” said Lee.

“Eduard is a very good striker, and is now rounding out his wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu. However, I feel that his main strengths are his heart and his killer instinct. He’s the two-time former ONE lightweight champion, so he doesn’t have many weaknesses. I think he’s a great fighter.”

Folayang responded with respect and praise to his fellow fighter before stating that he is also willing to share the cage with the young phenom.

“It would be an honor for me, and of course it will be a different challenge. I am very impressed with his improvements. I saw his growth as an athlete,” Folayang stated.

Lee showcased that he is a handful in the lightweight division when he defeated knockout artist Saygid “Dagi” Arslanaliev last October.

Folayang, meanwhile, suffered a split decision defeat in his last bout against Pieter Buist in January in front of his countrymen at The Mall of Asia Arena.

The man touted as the face of Philippine MMA acknowledges that he may very well be far from the title picture right now, but made it clear that he wants another shot at glory as he hopes to face Lee when that time comes.

“It’s going to be a very challenging match if I face Christian Lee. I know I am still far from a world title match, but in the future, I look forward to facing him,” said Folayang.

“It will be a big challenge for me if we face each other. I want to face him, and I hope he remains the champ by then.” -- BAP, GMA News
