Reyes, Bustamante protégé Jeff de Luna says he hopes to revive PHL billiards’ glory days

Filipino professional pool player Jeffrey de Luna has shared that he hopes to revive the glory days of Philippine billiard sports and prove Filipino players are world-class.

On Chino Trinidad’s “24 Oras” report Wednesday, the 2006 Asian Games silver medalist said he thought of the idea while he was in the Philippines just when the lockdown began.

“Naisip ko, sige maglagay ako ng table dito sa sala ko, and then magpa-body conditioning ako sa mental, sa katawan ko,” De Luna said on Chino Trinidad’s “24 Oras” report Wednesday.

De Luna, a protégé of billiard greats Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante, shared that while on vacation, he joined online tournaments, but these weren’t enough for him.

The billiards player known as “The Bull” then decided to go back to Las Vegas. “Mahal ko ang bilyar eh. Pag hindi ako nakapag-compete, hinahanap ng katawan ko,” he said.

De Luna said he began to prepare both physically and mentally, while thinking of ways to collaborate with both new and veteran players to revive the luster of Philippine billiards.

He said that despite not winning in recent years, Filipinos are some of the most talented players of the sport. – RC, GMA News
