Holloway hopes to lure Nurmagomedov out of retirement after epic performance

By JM SIASAT

Former UFC featherweight world champion Max Holloway is hoping that his performance against Calvin Kattar was good enough to lure Khabib Nurmagomedov out of retirement.

Holloway, 29, dominated Kattar in the main event of UFC on ABC en route to a landslide unanimous decision win this Sunday at the Etihad Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

“Khabib wanted somebody to impress him, if I did impress him because I know the way he thinks,” said Holloway.

“He wants to fight for his legacy, he doesn’t care about money. He wants the toughest opponents.”

Holloway and Nurmagomedov were supposed to lock horns inside the cage three years ago at UFC 223 but the fight was called off after the former was declared medically unfit to fight.

Holloway has since recovered from that and had fought six times. Now more than ever, the MMA fighters from Hawaii wants to test himself against the pound-for-pound king of MMA.

“If I got to push him over the edge so be it. We had one of the best press conferences ever, we just didn’t have the fight yet.” — LA, GMA News
