Blachowicz defeats Adesanya to retain light heavyweight title at UFC 259

Jan Blachowicz has scored his biggest win to date following a unanimous decision nod to retain his UFC light heavyweight world title over Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 259 this Sunday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Adesanya started the contest with jabs and leg kicks while Blachowicz was cautious with how he pressed forward. Blachowicz landed a few shots in round two that caught Adesanya's attention as the latter focused on landing his leg kicks against the Polish champ.

Blachowicz started to finally close the distance in round three only to get clipped by a left hook on the temple by Adesanya.

A big right hand from Blachowicz landed in round 4 that momentarily stunned Adesanya. After a back and forth exchange on their feet, Blachowicz scored a takedown that saw Adesanya flat on his back where he took punches to the head.

Blachowicz was breathing heavily in the final round as Adesanya threw his kicks and overhand right. Halfway through the round, Blachowicz went for another takedown which forced Adesanya to cover up to protect himself from the vicious ground and pound.

All three judges saw the fight Blachowicz after five five-minute rounds, improving his record to 28-8 while the reigning UFC middleweight world champ Adesanya tasted his first loss in mixed martial arts as he dropped to 20-1. — LA, GMA News
