After doubles title, Alex Eala also champ in singles in JA Milan meet

After just less than 24 hours, Alex Eala is a champion once again.

The Filipina teen tennis sensation prevailed over Nikola Bartunkova of Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-3, in their finals match to claim the top honor in the JA Trofeo Bonfiglio girls singles tournament in Italy Sunday afternoon (Manila time).

The victory came barely a day after the 16-year-old netter, along with American partner Madison Sieg, ruled the doubles draw with a win over Lucija Ciric Bagaric of Croatia and Sofia Costoulas of Belgium, 6-4, 4-6, 13-11,

late Saturday.

But unlike in doubles play, Eala made quick work of her singles' foe.

After closing out the first set at 6-3, the juniors world no. 3 pulled away in the second set, not giving any glimmer of hope to Bartunkova.

Eala quickly snared the first three games before the 15-year-old Bartunkova stole the fourth game, 3-1. She then broke away in the succeeding games to seal the victory, 6-3.

Eala is fresh from her Wimbledon debut where she was ousted in the second round in both singles and doubles play of tennis' oldest Grand Slam.

Eala also listed a successful stint in the 2021 French Open after she and Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva scooped the girls' doubles crown, hiking the Filipina's Grand Slam collection to two.
