Carlos Yulo thanks supporters after coming close to medal finish in Tokyo

Carlos Yulo was nothing but grateful in his maiden Olympic appearance.

The 21-year-old wunderkind posted on social media for the first time a few hours after his fourth place-finish in the men's vault finals of the Tokyo Games, where he tallied 14.716, just 0.017 points shy of a bronze medal.

Despite narrowly missing the podium, Yulo remained positive, thanking all the people who rallied behind him in his journey.

"I just want to thank God for all the blessings that I'm receiving. I also would like to thank my family for the continuous support," Yulo said in Filipino in an Instagram post just hours after the men's vault finals.

"I also want to thank my team who helped me reach the Olympics."

Yulo also admitted that his team's journey was not easy, but one they were happy to take.

"The road we had to tackle was not easy but everything was worth it."

With Yulo winding up in fourth place, South Korea's Shin Jeahwan took the gold medal with a total score of 14.783.

The ROC's Denis Abliazin also scored 14.783 but settled for the silver, while Armenia's Artur Davtyan clinched the bronze with a 14.733.
