EJ Obiena wears SpongeBob and Patrick socks in Olympic pole vault finals

Bikini Bottom is also represented in the world's biggest sporting stage.

Aside from his exciting performance, EJ Obiena's fashion choices, particularly his socks, became a topic of discussion in some online circles during the men's pole vault finals of the Tokyo Olympics Tuesday.

The pair of socks was eye-catching enough as the design featured 'SpongeBob SquarePants' characters SpongeBob and Patrick Star!

Lifestyle brand H&M also confirmed that the Philippine pole vault bet was wearing a pair which was part of the H&M x Spongebob design.

The Varsitarian, the official student publication of University of Santo Tomas, also joked around EJ's socks.

"You made the Philippines, UST and Bikini Bottom proud," the school publication said in its caption.

This is not the first time though that Obiena wore a pair of Spongebob-themed socks.

Obiena also wore a pair back in February during the 2021 Indoor pole vault season.

Back in March, he also sported a pair of socks that were designed with the face of a different character, Squidward.

Interestingly enough, the characters from SpongeBob have tried their hand at pole vaulting before.

In an episode of the show called "The Fry Cook Games" SpongeBob and Patrick had pole vaulting as one of their events.

Coincidentally, the show's Twitter account posted a clip from the episode on Monday, a day before the pole vault finals.

Spongebob aside, Obiena put together a remarkable performance despite bowing out of competition when he failed to clear the 5.80-meter mark.
