Team Philippines in the Tokyo Paralympics opening ceremony

Despite an initial setback after one of its athletes tested positive for COVID-19, the Philippine delegation to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics is all set for the event's opening ceremony.

The Philippine Sports Commission on Tuesday posted photos of the Philippine team preparing for the Para Games opener.

Wheelchair racer and para athlete Jerrold Mangliwan will carry the flag in the ceremony.

The Philippines will have five athletes participating in the Games, down from six qualifiers as Achele Guion (para weightlifting) will miss the event after testing positive for COVID-19.

Aside from Mangliwan, the other delegates who will compete in the Paralympics include para swimmers Ernie Gawilan and Gary Bejino, para discus thrower Jeanette Aceveda, and para jin Allain Ganapin.

The Paralympics will be held until September 5.
