Ernie Gawilan finishes 10th in men's backstroke heats to wrap Paralympics campaign

Filipino para swimmer Ernie Gawilan missed the bus to the men's 100-meter backstroke — S7 finals on Monday in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Gawilan finished 10th overall in the heats after clocking 1 minute and 21.60 seconds. This is 12.48 seconds behind tournament leader Pipo Carlomagno of Argentina. Only the top eight will advance to the finals.

This wraps up Gawilan's Paralympics campaign.

On Friday, the para swimmer fell short in the 200m individual medley event, while on Sunday, he finished sixth in the 400m freestyle finals.

Fellow para swimmer Gary Bejino will also compete this morning in the men's butterfly event. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/KBK, GMA News
