Michael Martinez set to return to competition in Finland after 3-year break

Filipino Winter Olympian Michael Martinez is set to return to competition after a three-year hiatus.

Martinez, along with Christopher Caluza and Sofia Frank, will represent the Philippines in the 2021 Finlandia Trophy in Finland on October 8-10.

The Finlandia Trophy is part of the International Skating Union's (ISU) Challenger Series where skaters can get points for world rankings.

Martinez last competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Back in April, the Olympian started a fundraiser for an attempt to join the 2022 Winter Olympics

in Beijing. However, he was not able to complete the selection process for Filipino skaters for the Olympic qualifier because he was still recovering from injury.

Caluza, meanwhile, also joined the Olympic qualifier selection process which Edrian Celestino topped. He is also a 2019 Southeast Asian Games silver medalist.

Frank, the Philippines' female bet, will compete in her second ISU Challenger Series event after joining the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy, where she finished 24th overall.
