Yuka Saso fires bogey-less 67 to open Cognizant Founders Cup

Yuka Saso opened her campaign in the 2021 LPGA Cognizant Founders Cup on a high note after firing 67 on Friday morning (Manila time) at the Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, New Jersey.

The Filipino-Japanese golfer unleashed a bogey-less performance to finish in joint third place with Brooke Henderson of Canada, Perrine Delacour of France, Nelly Korda of USA, and South Korea's So Yeon Ryu and Amy Yang of So.

Korean Jin Young Ko fired an impressive 8-under par 63 to top the first round while at solo second place was Germany's Sandra Gal, who finished with 66.

Saso, who represented the Philippines in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, opened the contest with an early birdie in the first and seventh holes. She fired another two birdies in the 10th and 18th holes to wrap up the first round of the 71-par tournament.

Another Filipina in Dottie Ardina, meanwhile, was in joint 56th after firing 71 highlighted by an eagle in the third and three bogeys.

The 20-year-old Saso was fresh from another LPGA event, ShopRite LPGA Classic, where she finished joint 19th.
