Carlos Yulo bags gold in Gymnastics World Championships vault finals

Carlos Yulo proved he is still one of the world's best gymnasts as he bagged the gold medal in the vault finals of the 50th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Sunday in Kitakyushu, Japan.

The Filipino Olympian set the bar after scoring 14.800 in his first vault, and another impressive performance at his second attempt to get 15.033. The two sets both had a difficulty score of 5.600. The execution scores were listed at 9.200 and 9.433 in the two sets, respectively.

Japan's Hidenobu Yonekura settled for silver with an average of 14.866 while Israel's Andrey Medvedev finished third with 14.649.

The 21-year old gymnasts qualified for the vault finals after finishing third in the qualifying round with a score of 14.808.

Yulo qualified for the vault finals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and finished in the sixth place.

On Saturday, Yulo failed to defend his championship in the floor exercise.

He will still compete in the parallel bars finals later this afternoon.
