Onic Philippines asserts mastery over Omega, this time in MPL Invitational

By JOHN EDISON UBALDO

Onic Philippines had to weather a storm from Omega Esports before completing a 2-0 sweep and progress in the Mobile Legend: Bang Bang Profesional League (MPL) Invitational 2021 on Wednesday.

It was another duplication of their mastery against Omega, whom they sent to the lower bracket in the MPL Philippines Season 8 playoffs via sweep and a double 2-1 victory in the regular season matches.

After a close early to mid game in the opener, Onic took the upperhand towards the late game after taking a 2-0 wipe in the 8th minute followed by another 3-0 take down in the 10th plus a lord take.

Although Omega managed to hold on and extend the match deep into the late game, Allen "Baloyskie" Baloy (Lunox) successfully secured a pivotal luminous lord take in the 20th minute for the win, 1-0.

It was another close affair in Game 2 until Omega scored a 2-0 exchange in the 10th minute that led to a lord take.

But Onic retaliated in the 15th minute after Ian "Beemo" Sergio (Chou) caught an out of position Duane "Kelra" Pillas (Brody) that led to a 2-1 exchange plus the luminous lord take that negated Omega's initial 5k gold lead.

The MPL Philippines Season 8 runners-up used another midlane clash in the 17th minute to complete a 5-2 wipeout for the sweep.

Onic PH will meet Indonesia's RRQ Hoshi in the next round for a spot in the tournament quarterfinals against MPL Malaysia Season 6 champion Team SMG.
