Merwin Tan strikes gold in SEA Games men's bowling, ends 11-year drought for Philippines
The Philippines' Merwin Tan on Monday made history as he ruled the men's bowling singles event in the 31st Southeast Asian Games, ending the country's 11-year gold medal drought in the event.
Tan tallied 1,292 to capture the gold medal among 11 other competitors at the Ha Noi Royal City in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Thailand's Yannaphon Larpapharat settled for silver with a score of 1,286 while Indonesia's Ryan Leonard Lalisang collected 1,221 points to finish with the bronze.
Tan's latest gold medal was the first for the Philippines since Frederick Ong achieved the same feat in 2011 when Jakarta hosted the biennial meet.
