Folayang eyes former UFC fighters Akiyama, Northcutt for his next fight

By JM SIASAT

Former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang of Baguio City's Team Lakay is looking to have himself tested yet again for his next fight.

Folayang, 38, is coming off a unanimous decision over Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr at ONE: X last March. If given the opportunity, the Filipino mixed martial arts icon says he would like to get in the cage against former UFC fighter Yoshihiro "Sexyama" Akiyama.

"Sexyama is a very good challenge to pursue especially since he just came from a big win as well," Folayang said.

"That win against JWP (John Wayne Parr) was a huge motivation booster for me to keep going no matter what lies in my future fights."

Akiyama, 16-7 as a professional mixed martial arts fighter, defeated Folayang's archrival and former ONE lightweight world champion Shinya Aoki via second-round technical knockout on the same night that the Filipino defeated Parr.

And since nothing is set in stone on who he is fighting next, Folayang also said that he is willing to give an all-striking matchup another go against Sage Northcutt.

"I'm honestly not sure about a Super Series fight but I really want a wushu vs. karate fight against Northcutt," Folayang said.
