RSG's Light on dethroning Omega in MSC: 'We just got lucky'

By JOHN EDISON UBALDO

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — When RSG Philippines faltered against Indonesia's RRQ Hoshi and Omega swept Myanmar's Falcon Esports, everybody expected a dogfight in the lower bracket finals in a rematch of the MPL Philippines Season 9 grandfinals.

And they did not disappoint.

When the dust settled, it was RSG who endured a long-series with a 3-2 escape against the defending Southeast Asian champions. Asked about their close win against compatriots, roamer Dylan “Light” Catipon feels that it was the breaks of the game that helped them win.

"The fight against Omega was a tough match. They can also win but we just got lucky and made good decisions in the last game," says Light.

After splitting the first two games, RSG had to clutch their way in a close Game 3 affair to reach match point but Omega responded with a lethal Game 4 win that gave them momentum heading into the decider.

During the rubber match, RSG opted for an early game-centric composition and decided to go all-in in the early goings that translated into a comfortable close out victory as Light and Arvie "Aqua" Antonio delivered the needed plays for the Philippine champions to secure their grandfinals slot.

Despite being rivals in the competition, Light expressed his concern for their fellow Filipinos who were deflated after failing to defend their MSC title.

"We're enemies [in] the battle but in real life we're truly friends so we support each other," explains Light.

This was evident as the whole RSG squad, including Coach Karl “Giee” Barrientos, went to console a crying Patrick James “E2Max” Caidic on stage after their elimination.

"Sinabi namin (kay E2max) sobrang ganda ng laban. Sobrang solid ng pinakita nila. Nagsosorry din kami (kasi) di kami umabot agad ng grandfinals. Gusto talaga namin maulit yung PH vs PH grandfinals kasi sobrang gandang gawing rematch nun sana," reveals Light.

"Sinabi din namin na babawian namin ang RRQ para sa kanila."

The grandfinals match between RSG PH and RRQ Hoshi will commence later today at 5pm.
