Former Nexplay Evos coach Zico kicks off MPL Cambodia campaign with statement win

By JOHN EDISON UBALDO

In MPL Cambodia Autumn Split 2022's opening weekend, Burn X Team Flash delivered a resounding opening win with an impressive 2-0 sweep of Divinity Saga that gave Filipino Coach John "Zico" Dizon a perfect debut in his first foray overseas.

For the former Nexplay Evos mentor, the win was just what he needed as an import coach but admits it's still too early to tell.

"It feels good (to win the opening match) kasi I need to make a statement to prove na malakas kami pero we're still in progress. Also I'm still not satisfied about the result unless we beat the strongest teams here," revealed Coach Zico.

"There's so much room for improvement for us. We failed in the early game but still managed to win within the 11-minute mark. May mga konting lilinisin lang and like I said we're still in progress. Minsan may mga miscomms kami dahil di sila ganun kalalim mag-English."

Burn X Team Flash's mettle will be quickly tested in their upcoming assignments in Week 2 as they face defending Champions Impunity KH.

But the team will get a boost with the arrival of Filipino goldlaner Jhonwin “Hesa” Vergara making his debut in Week 2 after missing the opening week due to some issues with the documents required for the transfer.

Hesa, who played for Nexplay Evos in Season 8 and 9, is considered as one of the strongest goldlaners in the MPL Philippines courtesy of his proficiency with the marksman meta.

"He's doing good but still adjusting sa environment specially sa language. Unti-unti namin inaaral mga comms nila (Cambodian players) in-game," said Coach Zico of Hesa.

"We'll see some of it this coming week when he (Hesa) plays against CFU and defending champs IMP."
