Leon Edwards upsets Usman with last minute KO at UFC 278

By JM SIASAT

Leon Edwards defied the odds and snatched the UFC welterweight world title following a last-minute knockout over Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 278 this Sunday at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Edwards, 30, became the first mixed martial arts fighter to score a takedown against Usman in the opening round. He was, however, unable to do much during the next three rounds as Usman took over with his trademark wrestling and improved boxing.

The former world champion looked on his way to yet another unanimous decision nod and took it down a notch in the final stanza. While all seemed lost for Edwards, he threw a head kick out of nowhere that knocked Usman out at the 4:04 mark of round 5.

“You all said I could not do it, look at me now! Pound-for-pound! Headshot. Dead!” said Edwards, who improved his record to 20-3, after the fight.
