MPL PHILIPPINES

Omega notches third straight win with sweep of Onic

By JOHN EDISON UBALDO

Omega Esports finally caught up with the league leaders as they leapfrogged Onic Philippines via a 2-0 win in the penultimate week of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 10 on Saturday.

They now have 22 points, tied with Blacklist International, going into their last season match across Bren Esports in Week 8. A win via sweep vs Bren will further solidify their bid for an upper bracket berth in the playoffs, their first time since Season 7.

Omega looked poised for an easy opening win after securing the early game objectives leading to a lopsided 6-0 kill tally by the 13th minute courtesy of Dean Christian "Raizen" Sumagui (Balmond) and Kiel VJ "Kielvj" Hernandez (Valentina) who had 3-0-2 and 1-0-5 KDA at that point.

Onic managed to secure the 17th minute lord then followed it with another 20th minute lord to turn the tables around.

The MSC 2021 champions aggression finally paid dividends in the 23rd minute as they caught Kenneth "Nets" Barro (Melissa) out of position for the pickoff leading to the evolved lord.

Onic tried to duplicate their split push strategy against Blacklist early this season, sending Nets on the opposite lane while engaging Omega in a lord dance. But Omega pulled the right stops and Duane "Kelra" Pillas (Claude) punished them with a reverse split to take the opener in the 30th minute.

Omega then displayed superb macro mechanics in Game 2, banking on Kelra's dominance as he lorded over in the gold lane, taking an outer turret by the 3rd minute tower to quickly reach his damage spikes.

Despite registering only one kill on the board, Omega easily secured the 9th minute lord with good zoning and objective taking.

The three-time MPL PH runners-up played perfectly the rest of the way as they methodically dismantled Onic, conceding only one outer turret and completing the sweep in the 14th minute with a measly 4-2 kill tally.
