31 players, including SEAG medalists, attend men's nat'l volleyball team tryouts

Several members of the men's volleyball national team during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games were among the 31 participants who attended the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) tryouts in Subic, Zambales on Thursday.

Marck Espejo, Josh Retamar, Jessie Lopez, Ish Polvorosa, Kim Malabunga, Ricky Marcos, Francis Saura, Mark Alfafara, and Jao Umandal attended the tryouts. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champion John Vic de Guzman also joined the team exercises.

They were members of the national team that won a silver medal in the men's volleyball event in the 30th SEA Games held here in the Philippines. 

Aside from the national team players, JP Bugaoan, Kim Dayadante, Anthony Ekwenugo, Mark Enciso, Alche Gupiteo, Noel Kampton, Chumson Njigha Jr., Leo Ordiales, Jian Matthee Salarzon, and Manuel Sumanguid also joined the tryouts.

According to PNVF, Rex Intal, Nico Almendras, Leo Aringo, Lloyd Josafat, Joeven dela Vega, Jack Kalingking, Louie Ramirez, Ysay Marasigan, John Mark Ronquillo, Kharyl Parce, and Rayver Sison were also in the team activities.

Bryan Bagunas, who played in Japan's V.League, is still undergoing quarantine. He is among the nine invited who were not able to attend the tryouts.

“I’m sure the coaches will have a hard time determining who to pick,” PNVF president Tats Suzara said.

The tryouts will continue tomorrow as they start to form the beach volleyball team. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/JMB, GMA News
