Former Lady Eagle Jules Samonte turns pro, joins Perlas Spikers

Jules Samonte is charting a new path in her young volleyball career as she turned professional to play for Perlas Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

The club made the announcement on Thursday, saying the former Ateneo Lady Eagle could be a big boost to the team as they head into the next conference next year.

"This is her next," said Perlas Spikers in a Twitter post.

"Your fire and passion will surely bring so much energy to the team. Thank you for embarking on this (volleyball) journey with us. Your coaches and teammates are excited to work with you."

Samonte, a former UAAP Season 79 Rookie of the Year, formally bid Ateneo goodbye last month in an Instagram post where she also thanked the Katipunan-based school for giving her the opportunity to play.

"I am immensely grateful to The Ateneo for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream and of course thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey," she said.

Samonte will join Perlas, who finished second to last in the previous season with a 1-8 win-loss card. The team also saw a tumultuous year after members of the team tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the start of the Open Conference.

With Perlas, Samonte will be joined by fellow former Lady Eagles Jem Ferrer, Jho Maraguinot, and Mich Morente as well as Nicole Tiamzon, Heather Guino-o, and Roma Doromal.
