Petro Gazz keeps finals hopes alive, eliminates Chery Tiggo with sweep

Petro Gazz shored up its finals hopes after a masterful 25-15, 25-17, 25-13 sweep victory against Chery Tiggo in their semifinals clash in the 2022 PVL Reinforced Conference on Sunday.

The defending champions easily took a 2-0 set advantage before they saw their lead balloon to 22-9 late in the third period with import Lindsey Vander Weide and Myla Pablo showing the way for the Angels. 

But with their backs against the wall, the Crossovers notched four straight points, two of those came from Cza Carandang, to pull to within nine, 22-13, but Petro Gazz countered with a 3-0 closing run of their own to take home the win. 

Petro Gazz, who won the previous edition last 2019, improved to a 1-1 slate to remain in the hunt for one of the two finals spots up for grabs while Chery Tiggo bowed out of contention after falling to a 0-2 slate. 

Vander Weide finished with 18 points built on 14 attacks and four aces while also contributing on defense with five digs. Pablo registered 15 markers in the win while veteran lefty hitter Aiza Maizo-Pontillas added with 11 points.
