Chery Tiggo kicks off All-Filipino campaign with sweep of Cignal

Chery Tiggo made quick work of Cignal with a 27-25, 25-19, 25-22 sweep victory to kick off its campaign in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.

Chery Tiggo went 1-0, joining Choco Mucho, Creamline, and F2 Logistics as the early leaders, while Cignal dropped to 0-1.

After taking the first two sets, the Crossovers faced a tough comeback attempt from the HD Spikers in the third set with Cignal tying things up at 14-all. Prior to that, Shaya Adorador and Roselle Baliton ignited a quick 4-0 run that saw them lead by three.

A Gel Cayuna net error and Jaycel Delos Reyes' attack put Chery Tiggo to a 19-16 advantage as EJ Laure went for an off-the-block hammer for a 21-16 cushion. Delos Reyes, a product of Ateneo women's volleyball team, continued to impress in her pro debut as completed a quick kill from a one-handed set of Alina Bicar, 22-18.

Sending the Crossovers to the match point was Adorador's targeted spike at the back, 24-20, before Cignal saved two points behind Ces Molina and Roselyn Doria. But Adorador again found a hole in Cignal's defense to seal the deal.
