NU gets twin wins in UAAP Season 85 volleyball opener

National University opened their UAAP Season 85 volleyball campaign with twin wins on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The defending champions Lady Bulldogs took down Ateneo de Manila University, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16, and extended their winning streak to 19, stretching back to Season 82.

Alyssa Solomon had 12 points off 10 attacks, a block, and an ace, while Cess Robles talled 11 points and eight excellent digs. Alex Miner had nine points for the Blue Eagles, while Faith Nisperos and Vannie Gandler had eight points apiece.

On the men's side, NU also defeated Adamson in straight sets, 25-23, 25-11, 25-20.

Rookie Michaelo Buddin had 13 points with 11 excellent receptions and six excellent digs, while Nico Almendras and Kennry Malinis had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Earlier, the Adamson University women's team made quick work of University of the East, 25-19, 25-9, 25-5, to give the Lady Falcons its first win under new head coach Jerry Yee. Their men's equivalent, on the other hand, were swept by the Red Warriors, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14.

UAAP volleyball action returns on Sunday with University of the Philippines taking on Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas going against De La Salle University to wrap the opening weekend.
