UST snaps NU's 20-game win streak in five-setter; Adamson downs FEU

The University of Santo Tomas snapped National University's 20-game winning streak in a five-setter, 25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 22-25, 15-11, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Eya Laure had 18 points (14 attacks, four blocks) and 14 excellent digs for the Golden Tigresses while Grace Jurado was effective on both ends with 18 points (14 attacks, two blocks, two aces) and 11 excellent digs. Milena Alessandrini, despite an injury scare in the middle of the match, had 14 points.

The UST win spoiled Alyssa Solomon's  22 points, while Bella Belen and Erin Pangilinan had 17 and 13 points.

This was NU's first loss since 2019, which came, coincidentally, also against the España-based squad. The Lady Bulldogs swept the elimination round and the finals in Season 84 to take the crown.

Earlier, Adamson University took down Far Eastern University, 25-21, 24-26, 25-14, 25-21, in the women's division. It was the opposite in the men's division as FEU defeated Adamson, 31-33, 25-17, 25-17, 25-23.

NU, also the defending champs in the men's division, took down UST in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21.

UAAP action will be back on Sunday with University of the Philippines going against University of the East and De La Salle University facing Ateneo de Manila University at the Mall of Asia Arena.
