UST deals Ateneo fourth straight loss; FEU survives UE in five-set thriller


University of Santo Tomas dealt Ateneo de Manila University its fourth straight loss, 25-19, 25-23, 25-14, in the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Rookie Regina Jurado had 15 points anchored on 12 attacks and three aces, while Eya Laure added 10 points in the Golden Tigresses' second consecutive win.

Vanie Gandler, on the other hand, had 13 points in the Blue Eagles loss which brought them down to 1-5.

Earlier, Far Eastern University survived a gutsy University of the East squad in a five-setter, 25-19, 18-25, 25-12, 22-25, 15-5.

The win improved the Lady Tamaraws' standings to 3-3, while UE was kept winless in six games.

In the men's division, FEU also defeated UE, 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, while Josh Ybañez tallied the first 30-point game in the season as he scored 31 in UST's 21-25, 28-26, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Ateneo.

UAAP action will return on Saturday with UE going against UST and FEU taking on NU.
