La Salle survives gallant FEU stand to book at least playoff for Final Four; UST sweeps UE

De La Salle University inched closer to a slot in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament after eking out a tight straight sets win against Far Eastern University, 30-28, 25-12, 28-26, on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Angel Canino scored 16 points for the Lady Spikers while Jolina dela Cruz and Thea Gagate had 13 and 11 points in the Taft-based squad's ninth straight win which assured them of at least a playoff for a Final Four slot.

Chenie Tagaod had 13 points while Alyzza Devosora had 10 points in the FEU loss which dropped them down to 4-5.

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas kept University of the East winless, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17. Eya Laure had 17 points to improve the Golden Tigresses' record to 6-3.

In men's play, UST defeated UE, 28-26, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22 while La Salle outlasted FEU in a five set-thriller, 25-22, 25-27, 20-25, 25-21, 15-12.

UAAP action will be back on Saturday with National University squads taking on University of the Philippines, while Adamson University teams will face Ateneo de Manila University.
