Adamson completes elims sweep of Ateneo; NU returns to win column


Adamson University completed an elimination round sweep of Ateneo de Manila University after a straight sets victory on Saturday, 25-23, 25-17, 26-24, in the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Kate Santiago had 18 points while Trisha Tubu added 17 in the Lady Falcons' third consecutive victory which improved their standing to 7-2. Faith Nisperos led the Blue Eagles with 17 points in the loss, which brought them down to 3-6.

This is the first time that the San Marcelino-based squad swept the Katipunan team since the 2008-09 season.

Meanwhile, National University returned to the win column after a tight sweep of University of the Philippines, 25-21, 27-25, 25-20, to improve to 6-3. The win also eliminated the winless University of the East, while UP's loss put them at the brink of elimination with a 1-8 record.

Over in the men's side, NU defeated the winless UP squad, 25-14, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, to improve to 9-0. Meanwhile, Ateneo (5-4) outlasted Adamson (1-8) in a five-setter, 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10.

UAAP action will return on Saturday as UE takes on Far Eastern University while De La Salle University faces University of Santo Tomas.
