UST, Adamson bolster playoff bids with wins over Ateneo, UE

The UST Golden Tigresses and the Adamson Lady Falcons boosted their bids in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday after posting wins over Ateneo de Manila University and University of the East, respectively, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

UST and Adamson both improved to 8-3 for a tie at second place, trailing only De La Salle University at 9-1. The idle NU Lady Bulldogs are in fourth place with a 7-3 record.

UST bested Ateneo, 25-22, 25-20, 27-29, 25-21, for a third consecutive win. Eya Laure and Imee Hernandez led the way for the Golden Tigresses with 27 and 24 points as they knocked the sixth-place Blue Eagles, who are now in peril of elimination, down to 4-7.

Adamson, meanwhile, kept struggling UE winless in 11 games after a 25-16, 25-19, 20-25, 27-25 victory behind Kate Santiago’s 18 points, spoiling a 27-point effort from UE’s Van Bangayan.

The Lady Falcons will take on the league-leading La Salle Lady Spikers on Wednesday while the Golden Tigresses will return against the FEU Lady Tamaraws on Sunday, April 23.
