Over P14.2B worth of illegal drugs destroyed in Cavite —PDEA

Over P14.29 billion worth of illegal drugs were destroyed at the Integrated Waste Management Incorporated in Trece Martires City, Cavite on Thursday, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.

PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva said the activity is in compliance with the guidelines set by the law in connection with the confiscated dangerous drugs.

“Today’s ceremony is in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002,” he said during the ceremony.

“This is also in response to our mandate and the marching order of our President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to immediately destroy all confiscated dangerous drugs, controlled precursors, and essential chemicals to prevent ‘recycling’,” he added.

This batch is the largest volume of seized dangerous drugs slated for destruction, the PDEA said.

According to Villanueva, a total of P34.635 billion worth of illegal drugs and other related items have been destroyed through thermal decomposition at the facility in the past two years under his leadership.

“We have already cleared a total of 25,061 barangays as of April 30, 2022. We still have 10,410 barangays to be cleared,” he added.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
